Starting in fiscal year 2004 (October 2003) the Caltech President's Fund Program will be combined with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory's Director Research and Development (DRDF) Program and will by managed by JPL. This has occurred because the DRDF program was completely modified in the fiscal year 2003 period requiring that at least 50% of all participants be from external organizations. This new requirement made the two programs almost identical. The new call for DRDF proposals will be distributed around the end of August 2003 with proposals due around the middle of October. The principal investigators are anticipated to be primarily from JPL with a smaller number of external co-principal investigators. The co-investigators can be from universities, industry or national laboratories.
